How Product Development Companies Move from Client Work to Product Ownership: Denis Salatin on Lumitech’s Journey to Tolmete
Product ideas often take shape when different clients keep describing the same unresolved problem. For the Dubai-based Lumitech software development company, that problem appeared in conversations with service businesses. Their managers could track hours, tasks, and delivery progress, yet they could not see how those activities were affecting project profit until the financial result had already changed. The pattern repeated often enough that Lumitech’s engineers and delivery leads asked a broader question: does the market lack a product that addresses it consistently?
The systems clients already used did not make that connection while their projects were still active. Lumitech decided to build it. The result was Tolmete, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform launched in August 2026 for businesses that sell client work. It connects structured delivery records with a project’s commercial plan and shows managers which changes may weaken the expected margin. The launch gave Lumitech a new role: the company continues to provide software development services in the UAE and abroad while taking responsibility for a product built for a shared market instead of a single client.
Product Development Services Revealed a Problem Existing Tools Could Not Resolve
Clients described the problem in different languages. A delivery leader might see a busy team and a healthy project board, then discover at month-end that the work had overrun the plan. Finance could show the overrun without tracing it to the delivery decision that caused it. Each view was accurate, and each one was incomplete.
One Project, Three Systems, No Shared Financial View
A project manager who wanted the financial picture had to open three windows. Estimates and task movement lived in the project tool, approved hours in the time system, budgets and invoices in accounting. None held the commercial result, so the manager built that answer by hand. Clients wanted to know which change had moved the number, what it would cost, and whether a conversation with their own client was still worth having.
Product Development Consulting Turned the Complaint into a Product Brief
A request in those terms could have produced another reporting tool. Lumitech read it as a commercial problem instead, and the background of founder and CEO Denis Salatin explains that reading. He began as an engineer working with enterprise clients on behalf of an outsourcing vendor, then moved into pre-sales, training, and delivery leadership. Along the way, he saw “how painful the software development process could be.”
Managers asked for better reports. What they lacked was a signal that reached them while the decision was still open. That shaped Lumitech’s product development strategy. The company would leave project and accounting systems in place and connect them, without asking anyone to abandon the tools they already ran.
The Decision That Kept AI Product Development Narrow
The harder call came before any engineering. Lumitech had to decide how much of a client’s working life the product would interpret, and it chose the narrowest set that could still support a commercial argument: the delivery signals a team already produces, read for shape instead of content. Evidence a client will audit carries a margin conversation, while anything resembling surveillance ends it.
What Product Development Companies Take On Without a Client-Approved Scope
On a client project, the client defines the problem, approves the budget, agrees on the scope, and accepts the finished work. Tolmete removed that external decision-maker. Product development companies that take this step make every one of those calls themselves and carry the risk if the market disagrees.
For Product Engineering Companies, SaaS Product Development Changes the Terms
Tolmete introduced a different responsibility. The company had to finance development before recurring revenue was certain and keep improving the product long after release. Lumitech reports growth of 850 percent since 2022 and a team of around 100 professionals serving clients in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. For product engineering companies adding SaaS product development, the dividing line falls at acceptance. A client engagement ends when the contracted work is signed off. The software product development lifecycle of an owned product continues as customers use it and expose assumptions that did not appear during development.
How Lumitech Keeps Client Requests from Becoming the Product Roadmap
The central roadmap question is whether a request reflects a wider market need or the process of one account. A request from the loudest customer can fill the roadmap with one account’s exceptions while billable deadlines push shared product work aside. Resisting that pull is the part of the product development transformation that outlasts any single release.
Digital Product Development Replaces One Client Brief with Market Judgment
Owning Tolmete changed who judges whether it solved the problem. One client used to decide that inside one engagement, and now many companies decide it at once.
“What it still needs is a clear way to see the money side of that work while the team can still protect the margin,” Salatin said when Lumitech announced Tolmete.
Now Tolmete Has to Prove Its Value
Tolmete now faces three commercial tests, all decided by customers. The first is timing, because a warning that arrives after the decision has little value. The second is trust in the data. The third is management action: a warning that helps someone protect scope, time, or margin earns the product a place in the workflow.
The Four Questions Lumitech Answered Before Funding Tolmete
Lumitech committed engineering capacity only after the complaint had answers to four questions. The first identified the person who met the problem every week and held the authority to act. The second fixed how much earlier a decision had to arrive to change the outcome. The third located records a client would accept as proof. The fourth put a number on the delay across every project running at once. Whether Tolmete holds now depends on service businesses recognising their own projects in the product.
