Rental & Replacement Cars CEO of the Year 2025 (APAC): Alex Rodov

Alex Rodov is both the CEO and managing director of Carbiz, Australia’s one-stop shop for accident management services. Established in 2016, the company has almost a decade of experience providing step-by-step support for customers – from the scene of the accident itself to the recovery claim and getting back on the road as quickly as possible. Alex and the team are passionate about disrupting vehicle replacement through the service they provide, and we caught up with Alex for more on how Carbiz challenges convention, as well as the journey that put him in the driver’s seat.

Australia, like countries all over the world, sees thousands of vehicle accidents take place every day. As anyone who has ever been involved in a traffic collision can attest, the situation can be stressful and overwhelming, even for the person not at fault. Carbiz helps put an end to these worries, getting its customers back on the road as quickly and safely as possible. It does this by delivering a like-for-like replacement vehicle straight to the customer, ensuring their mobility and lifestyle remain intact as their damaged vehicle is repaired.

Many people are unaware that if they are involved in a not-at-fault accident with more than one car, then they may be legally entitled to a loan car covered by the at-fault party’s insurance policy. Carbiz sees its customers empowered to navigate this process seamlessly, with the company not only delivering a car just as good as the one involved in the accident but also recovering the costs directly from the party at fault, all without charging a penny to the customer. The result is a worry-free experience and minimal disruption.

As touched on above, Carbiz sees its purpose as being to disrupt, redefining an industry that has long been plagued by a lack of honesty and understanding. Unfortunately, it is all too common for customers to go uninformed about what they are entitled to following an accident, which is particularly frustrating when they were not the cause. This stems from many organisations in this space prioritising profit, resulting in extra frustration when what they really need is consistency and accountability – which Carbiz deliver.

Every element of the customer experience has been meticulously mapped out by Carbiz, and applying for a replacement vehicle could not be more straightforward. Customers simply fill out an online application form or call the in-house team to get started. All that is then needed is a bit of information about the accident and the details of the at-fault driver. Once this is all processed, a replacement car is delivered straight to a customer’s location by members of the team, often within just a few short hours of the request first being submitted.

“We are redefining what Australian drivers can expect after an accident and aim to be their first point of contact.”

The remarkable work Carbiz is doing when it comes to advocating for the rights of not-at-fault drivers has more than paid off over the past few years, with the High Court of Australia making a landmark ruling in 2021 in the wake of the Arsalan v Rixon and Nguyen v Cassim cases. Essentially, these cases related to the accident replacement vehicles (ARVs) being provided after a collision going beyond functionality to be of an acceptable quality to preserve the comfort level the not-at-fault party was accustomed to beforehand.

Since they didn’t cause the accident, there is no reason why the innocent party should be made to suffer inferior travel for the duration of their vehicle repair. The High Court making with this ruling, clarifying that not-at-fault drivers are entitled to an ARV of a similar standard to their own vehicle – including luxury and high-end vehicles where applicable – set a new precedent in the industry, acknowledging that accidents can unfairly result in the loss of amenities, safety, and the joy of the overall driving experience.

More information about the impact of this ruling can be found by clicking here.

With a little help from this decision – and the unwavering dedication of the team behind Carbiz – the company has grown from its humble origins in a converted garage with just a handful of cars to a national organisation with more than a dozen locations spread across Australia. Across this journey, Carbiz has positioned itself as a beacon of reliability and support when it comes to ARVs, with its complementary loan cars ensuring business and life as usual during what would otherwise be an upsetting and challenging time.

More than 1,500 late-model vehicles make up the Carbiz fleet, from renowned manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Porsche, Ford, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen, no less. Across this collection, vehicles of all shapes and sizes are available, from compacts and SUVs to sedans, vans, EVs, and motorbikes. These four-wheel options range from two seats to eight seats, ensuring customers have the right vehicle for their unique needs – whether they drive for work, do the school run, or simply need to get around easily.

“Through strategic partnerships and initiatives, Carbiz has taken significant strides towards promoting eco-friendly vehicle options for our customers, reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to a greener future for all.”

Alex Rodov has played a pivotal role in Carbiz securing this reputation as Australia’s go-to provider for replacement cars, with his expertise having served as the foundation of the company since day one. Despite what people often think, Alex has not always been involved in insurance or even the automotive industry, instead getting his start in real estate in 1998. It was here that Alex developed what would become a deep appreciation for customer service, which drew him to the role of senior personal banker with St George Bank.

Six years later, in 2013, Alex was bit by the entrepreneurial bug, leading him to launch and grow a number of successful ventures across a whole host of industries. These include in his previous areas of expertise such as financial services and real estate, and well as new frontiers like waste management, catering, and legal services. Alex explained: “This entrepreneurial journey allowed me to gain hands-on experience in building scalable operations, navigating diverse regulatory environments and identifying opportunities for innovation.”

Carbiz started out as one such venture, with Alex stepping into the roles of CEO and managing director and drawing on everything he knew to lead a business that puts people first, during a time when they need total support. Even to this day, Alex’s approach when dealing with new customers is grounded in this ethos, especially winning with trust. In this way, and by prioritising transparency and open communication, the needs of every customer can not only be fully understood but proactively worked towards at every turn.

“Carbiz’s relentless focus on customer satisfaction has created a cycle of organic growth and efficiency. Our word-of-mouth referrals, strong partner retention, and repeat customers keep acquisition costs low, allowing us to invest in improving our service rather than constantly chasing new leads.”

As well as being wired-in to the needs of his customers, Alex’s strengths shine equally as bright when it comes to leading the team he has built at Carbiz. Leveraging the same people-first ethos he affords customers, Alex’s hands-on approach to leadership ensures he is visible, approachable, and aligned with the team on a daily basis. This is seen through steps as simple as Alex wearing the same Carbiz shirt as everyone else, which may seem trivial, but demonstrates that this is a team working together – side by side and as equals.

To this end, Alex also makes sure that every member of the team, regardless of their specific role within the company, understands how their work contributes to Carbiz’s larger goals in this space. Alex does this in a number of ways, from hosting town hall meetings to sharing company-wide updates, celebrating wins together, and promoting open discourses around tackling business challenges. A group chat with everyone from the company then sees contact just a click away, whether for professional queries or personal moments.

A culture such as this, which both empowers and allows people to feel seen, is essential for a rapidly growing and relatively new organisation like Carbiz to succeed in a market that is as saturated and rigid as rental and replacement cars. The company is constantly having to compete with the giants of the industry, and its mission to disrupt the status quo whilst also expanding its reach makes things twice as hard. Challenging entrenched systems is never easy, especially in an industry certainly not known for being customer oriented.

Nevertheless, Carbiz’s drive has ensured its rapid growth over the past nine years, with it now boasting locations from Perth to New South Wales and everywhere in between. Such swift expansion has, however, brought challenges of its own, especially when it comes to the company keeping its processes, fleet, and infrastructure all consistent with the pace of the business’ expansion. This is a challenge that Alex more than welcomes, as it has opened the door for more talent and new ideas, pushing the business to be more strategic.

Diving deeper into what this strategy looks like for the rest of 2025 and beyond, Alex tells us that Carbiz is aspiring to continue expanding its reach across Australia, guided by its overarching aim of being there to support as many Australian drivers as possible during their time of need. More specifically, this involves expanding its fleet by fortifying relationships with manufacturers and dealers from right across the country, as well as expanding the support it provides to customers by branching out to warranty issues.

Concerning his own career in particular, Alex is firm in the belief that his own journey and success is tied to that of those around him, resulting in a massive opportunity for the next generation of Carbiz’s leaders. Given the company’s internal environment is one of empowerment and initiative taking, helping people grow into leadership roles is a priority, as this will secure both the business’ future and the futures of its valued employees.

“At the same time, I plan to keep taking calculated risks, embracing innovation, and staying ahead of the curve. Being an early adopter and challenging the status quo is what brought me here, and I have no intention of slowing down. I want to build a legacy that has a lasting impact not just on our customers, but on the industry as a whole.”

Concerning his legacy, Alex’s work in nurturing the next generation of workers in this industry even extends beyond Carbiz, seen through his active engagement in a number of sector-specific events. Whether he’s sharing insights on topics such as mobility trends, great customer service, or even ways to be an effective leader, Alex takes immense pride in helping discerning individuals become the best possible versions of themselves and add value.

This is the same thing Alex has been doing for several years now with Carbiz, and the results speak for themselves. Be it the 14 locations the company operates across Australia, the more than 1,500 cars comprising its fleet, or the hundreds of five-star reviews it boasts across platforms like TripAdvisor, Facebook, and Reviews.io, everything the business does is geared towards excellence and setting the standard – and it very clearly shows.

Having built Carbiz into Australia’s leading rental and replacement car firm, Alex has solidified himself as a visionary leader in the country’s automotive industry, one whose passion for innovation, delivery of customer-first solutions, and commitment to positive change are forever altering the way people experience and interact with vehicle replacement services. As a result of this, it is our pleasure to recognise Alex Rodov with the well-deserved title of Rental & Replacement Cars CEO of the Year 2025 (APAC).
