CEO MONTHLY / ISSUE 12 2022 19 Mar22259 Business is all About People PeopleMaps has been pioneering online personality profiling software for over 20 years. Its aim is to help organisations hire and retain great staff by providing managers and staff with a deeper understand of themselves and the people they work with. Recognised as CEO of the Year, 2022 - the United Kingdom, Martin Gibbons has always loved his work at the company, even when it’s been a challenge. We got in touch with the man himself to learn more. “Business is all about people” – This is the foundation upon which PeopleMaps is built, believing in the incredible potential people have and can bring to their organisations. CEO, Martin tells us, “Great managers can get extraordinary results from ordinary people, and really great managers realise that no one is ordinary. We work with managers to help them become really great managers and to realise that no one is ordinary, and that they can help discover the extraordinary in the people they manage.” Martin’s belief is that the potential of people has always been there, seeing this in everyone, from school leavers to executives. He says, “When we tap into this potential, everyone’s life improves: the staff member, the manager, the business, and the client. Organisations spend a lot of time looking for those “special people”, when in reality, they are staring at them every day they go to work.” From day one, PeopleMaps has been out to make personality profiling psychology accessible to everyone. This is not only reflected in the price but also in the fact that the platform is jargon-free. It uses no labels and no interpretation is required to use and understand the reports. Removing the need for interpretation means there is no need for specialist training and it means there is none of the human error that comes with interpretation. PeopleMaps designs specific applications, so, for example, PeopleMaps Interview Pro is created exclusively for the user to interview job candidates and serves as an interview guide. The report not only tells the user information about the candidate, but it also provides the most important questions to ask and facilitates a conversation. With PeopleMaps, busy line managers can print off a report and use it right away, enabling them to get to know a candidate in a short space of time. However, Martin has the view that PeopleMaps’ success isn’t due to its software, although it is “pretty special”. He says, “Our success will come as a result of the people who join PeopleMaps and work with us. For example, I have just appointed a new Sales Director. I have been gently persuading this person to join us for over 10 years. He knows nothing about profiling and nothing about software. However, he is the best people person I have ever known. I can’t wait to see what he does and I can’t wait to work with him, as I have no doubt he will take us to the next level.” He adds, “I am a big believer in seeing “misfits fitting”, as great teams consist of diversity, where everyone is unique and brings something unique to the table. Difference, not conformity or compliance, is the key.” And this continues to work for Martin and PeopleMaps, having seen great success over the last two decades – So how has Martin made this success happen? “I have no interest in limiting people or controlling them. I want to set people free to see what they can do.” He then says, “One of the things I have discovered about myself is that I am very persistent. I have always loved my work at PeopleMaps, even when times were difficult. I am determined to keep working hard and figure out how to scale PeopleMaps to an eight-figure business. I have been doing this for over 20 years and I figure I will still find this work fascinating for another 20 years.” However, that’s not to say that there aren’t challenges. Martin gives us an insight: “The challenge at PeopleMaps has always been to find sufficient focus. This is partly because I see possibility and opportunity everywhere and partly because wherever you find people you find a need for PeopleMaps. “I believe PeopleMaps has found sufficient focus in helping managers solve their biggest problems. Managing other people is one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs in the workplace. PeopleMaps can help with this.” Now Martin and the team are excited to be launching a new personality product called Your Management Style, to help managers understand more about their personality type and how to tap into it to become an exceptional manager. Martin explains, “It is vital that managers work to their own unique, natural management style. What works for me will not necessarily work for you. Your Management Style not only s personality content but also talks about how it affects various aspects of management.” Company: PeopleMaps Contact: Martin Gibbons Email: [email protected] Website: www.peoplemaps.com Oct
