CEO MONTHLY / GLOBAL COO EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2025 4 COO of the Year 2025: Water Resource Strategy & Sustainability ounded in 2005, eWater Group is today relied upon to deliver trusted, creative, and science-led tools and expertise to more than meet the water management needs of Australia and other countries in this part of the world. The team here work tirelessly to support, facilitate, and encourage evidencebased decision making when it comes to water resources, seen through their ability to develop, manage, and deploy tools and services that enhance responsible water management, underpinning them all with accurate data and practical advice. Duty-bound to deliver these offerings in the best interests of its owner governments, stakeholders, and clients – as well as on behalf of the Australian people that have invested in its capacity to deliver – eWater Group has evolved considerably over the past two decades, to the point where international stakeholders are now as A venture jointly owned by all Australian governments, eWater Group supports sustainable, climatefocused water management through the provision of stewardship, development, enhancement, research, access, and transparency in this space. The company not only works within all of Australia’s states and territories, but its presence can be felt internationally, particularly in Asia and the Pacific. Stephen Cory is the COO of this huge operation, and he leverages more than 25 years in finance, quality assurance, and management systems to lead valiantly from the front. On the back of his recognition in this programme, we caught up with Stephen for more. F reliant on its products, tools, and expertise as those within its home country. These insights assist stakeholders with everything from reducing poverty to pursuing integrated water resources management. “There is no other organisation in Australia that can ensure the safe custody and wise, ongoing development of these critical national assets.” eWater Group manages two businesses – eWater Solutions, its software and hydrology business responsible for supporting the application of its tools for water modelling both at home and abroad, and the Australian Water Partnership, which is a key part of Australia’s support for climate resilient sustainable water resource management in South Asia, South-East Asia and the Pacific. Until January 2024, Mekong Water Solutions was the third business operated by the company, with this venture delivered in partnership with the Australian Government to see a practical approach taken to climate-sensitive water resources management in Cambodia. MWS successfully met program outcomes and delivered services using Australian and local water expertise in Cambodia until the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s decision to discontinue funding beyond January 2024. eWater Group is continuing to go from strength to strength, and a great many of its successes over the past eight years can be attributed to COO Stephen Cory. Backed by more than a quarter century of experience in a career spanning everything from banking to work in the not-for-profit sector, Stephen has carved out a welldeserved reputation for himself as a strategic and astute senior executive. Across his daily responsibilities as eWater Group’s COO, Stephen oversees and manages the operations and strategies of the company, ensuring its strategic goals are met. As a part of this, he has even optimised the internal process of the company to the internationally recognised ISO:9001 standard, all whilst improving efficiency, driving growth, and keeping alignment with the company’s vision of making water management better. Since joining eWater Group in early 2017, Stephen has achieved a number of highly impressive feats, such as increasing growth in retained earnings by 250% as a result of careful financial management across the company. In addition to this he has also successfully bid for an open tender for the third phase of the Australian Water Partnership. Although these figures are notable, Stephen told us: “I have always taken the view of telling the story behind the numbers.” This not only relates to his unique ability to explain complex financial structures to those not in the know, but it is also indictive of a COO that is about much more than figures on a piece of paper. For example, Stephen prides himself on a mantra of continuous improvement, allowing him to improve both his own performance and that of the wider company through the likes of audits and due diligence reviews. This ability to keep pace with an ever-changing environment is proving increasingly important in a landscape of growing complexity and new challenges, and significant discussions have been sparked as a result of these developments. Diving deeper into this, Stephen explained: “At eWater Group, we are part of this conversation, developing innovative, science-based solutions to support effective water management. By leveraging May25003
CEO MONTHLY / GLOBAL COO EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2025 5 advanced scientific methods, we continuously refine our approaches to address water modelling challenges.” “Transparency plays a key part in addressing these challenges. We operate as a model ethical corporate entity, holding our core values and commitments to sound governance. These values encapsulate the delivery of our functions with integrity, building value and opportunities for our stakeholders whilst also sustaining and enriching our stakeholders with whom we work and the communities we serve and support.” Exploring these core values in more detail, eWater’s values comprise integrity, accountability, development, and growth. This can be seen across what both his greatest challenge and his proudest achievement is – helping developing countries make considerable strides in their climate-sensitive water resources management. Nations close to Australia are beginning to tackle challenges relating to their long-term water security as a result of the variable, unforgiving climate, and Australia is well placed to be able to help its neighbours as a result of its knowledge and proficiency in capacity building. Mekong Water Solutions was a brilliant example of this, with the business employing 30 local professionals to develop a strategy, structure, and implementation plan to deliver water resource projects in the Mekong. In the more than two years it was in operation, this initiative secured USD$145m in funding from the World Bank, built strong relationships with key ministries in Cambodia (such as the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries), and became acclaimed amongst stakeholders on the back of its ability to provide practical solutions to the most pressing water management issues. With the experiences taken from this project still fresh in his mind, Stephen shared with us that his future ambitions for eWater Group are based around maturing and strategically growing both the company and its services. A newly created international committee of the board will help oversee these expansion efforts, allowing the company to reach as many people and communities as it can across Indo-Pacific countries. Explaining this further, Stephen told us: “We want to build on this experience and our unique position as a trusted advisor to governments relating to water management, expanding our operations into these areas of opportunity.” Outside of this, eWater Group remains committed to the pursuit of sustainable and climate-resilient management of water in Australia and beyond through partnerships and the provision of trusted and innovative expertise and tools. We develop and deliver Australia’s National Hydrological Modelling Platform, eWater Source, on behalf of all Australian governments; and deliver international water development programs on behalf of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Australian Water Partnership. eWater Source is, at its core, an incredibly powerful national asset, one developed by a high calibre of technical Australian expertise and knowledge. The capabilities of this platform have been recognised nationally, resulting in its deployment to model river basins internationally. Finally, Stephen shared more details on the previously mentioned third phase of the Australian Water Partnership: “We signed the new contract with DFAT in May 2024 and commenced Phase 3 immediately, concurrent with the transition and success of Phase 2 activities. It is expected that Phase 3 will run until June 2029, building on the success of previous phases, but focusing particularly on climate resilience in water management in developing countries across Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the Pacific.” Ultimately, as it works towards these initiatives, it is worth reinforcing the great work that eWater Group does in enabling the sustainable, climateresilient management of water in Australia and internationally. This is made possible only by its people, including awardwinning COO Stephen Cory, who are responsible for the company’s strategic direction as “trusted adviser” – instilling confidence in partners and stakeholders alike from all over the world. With the hospitality industry being at somewhat of a crossroads right now – this as a result of the sustained demand for travel since COVID-19 restrictions eased a few years ago being offset by industry-wide challenges such as recruitment shortages, technology integration, and rising labour costs – it is imperative that Miguel’s approach to leadership be as strong as it is flexible. As for how this will impact his role, Miguel explained: “I see my role as constantly evolving to meet the company’s needs. My focus is always on supporting the teams, collaborating with colleagues across the organisation, and ensuring we remain adaptable to the changing demands of the industry.” Finally, Miguel excitedly tells us about the next phase of development Moov is currently in, with several projects under construction already and even more openings set for the near future. In a world where AI systems are threatening the creative sector more so than any other, this company’s focus on autonomous robotics in fields such as retail, logistics, and automotive is a step in the right direction for many. We caught up with Ricardo Araújo, Follow Inspiration’s award-winning COO, for more on its pioneering work. Despite some of the challenges inherent in automation, there is no denying its value in helping discerning organisations looking to support their teams with technology that is both reliable and capable of streamlining workflows. This group primarily forms the client base of Follow Inspiration, a company that is well versed in creating state-of-the-art robots that are capable of navigating busy environments like warehouses. All of this began more than a decade ago with the creation of WiiGO Retail, an autonomous shopping cart devised to assist individuals with mobility problems – such as the company’s CEO. This development set the wheels in motion for Follow Inspiration to explore advanced robotics further, creating solutions that could be effortlessly applied to the operations of businesses across almost any sector anywhere in the world. Today, the company’s portfolio consists of three lines its Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) line, units capable of transporting pallets and other such loads; its Autonomous Forklift line, self-driving forklifts that can pick up and transport any pallet or container; and a range of mobile ‘picking’ robots, which grab and transport products without the need for any infrastructure reinforcement. Underpinning these solutions is a fleet management system that allows these robots and their workflows to be managed in real time. Thus, as COO Ricardo Araújo explained: “We aim to assist organisations in solving genuine problems with accessible, dependable, and innovative technology. Our vision is for robotics to seamlessly integrate into daily life and work, becoming a natural and helpful presence. Our commitment to closely listening to our clients and adjusting our solutions to fit their needs distinguishes us from competitors that simply offer ‘one-size-fits-all’ products.” Innovation has been a common theme throughout Ricardo’s esteemed career, a journey shaped by experiences across a number of roles. Along this road, Ricardo has become an expert in building the best teams, listening acutely to the needs of customers, executing highly successful projects, and supporting the ever-evolving technology and robotics communities worldwide. Over the past 15 years, Ricardo has worked for OutSystems, SoSafe, and Code For All, taking on roles relating to the likes of customer success, digital information, and user experience. Each of these positions has had a huge impact on Ricardo’s professional development, and the skills he has honed across these roles are reflected in the operational excellence he embodies as Follow Inspiration’s COO – especially when it comes to upholding the company’s core values. Working towards its ultimate aim of leading the field when it comes to autonomous mobile markets, Follow Inspiration is guided by the values of efficiency, collaboration, and innovation. Ricardo himself is a firm believer in these, and he uses this value system as a blueprint for everything from interacting with customers and partners to liaising with his own teams. These have proven invaluable in this COO ensuring things run smoothly across the company, as well as that trust is nurtured both internally and externally. “My approach as COO is to act much like a periscope: I make a conscious effort not to lose sight of the broader strategy above the waterline, all whilst staying deeply connected to the day-to-day realities faced by our teams below the surface.” On the back of the strengths inherent within this approach, Ricardo shares his primary aim for the rest of 2025, which is to secure a new round of investment fuel the next phase of the start-up’s growth. Ricardo explained: “Once this investment is in place, we plan to expand significantly, aiming for 50% growth in both 2026 and 2027. A significant part of this strategy involves entering the North American market, where we see strong demand for practical robotics solutions and an opportunity to build on our work in Europe.” Although he has only worked at Follow Inspiration for around eight months, the impact Ricardo Araújo has had on this autonomous robotics solutions company is considerable. Having made demonstrable improvements in everything from the business’ operations strategy to its global reach, this COO is a fitting recipient of this award. CEO MONTHLY / GLOBAL COO EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2025 8 Comfort Click began life in 2005, at a time when e-commerce was just beginning to emerge in the UK and European markets. The company’s bold vision was to forever change the way people access health and wellness products, and its first website saw it deliver premium Over the last 20 years, Comfort Click Ltd has been guided by a mission to become one of the biggest online providers of wellness products in Europe, underpinning its leading range with an exceptional approach to customer service and a steadfast commitment to quality. Having joined the brand in 2007, Huzefa Motorwala has proven instrumental in its growth, evolving alongside Comfort Click to ascend from a member of the customer service team to the company’s COO. Below, we take a deep dive into Comfort Click and learn more about the pivotal role Huzefa plays. supplements from the US and countries around the world to the doors of customers in the UK. From these humble origins began a movement – a movement grounded in trust and ambition in a wellness space that was quickly developing. As Comfort Click started to expand across Europe and then into the Nordic region, it leveraged partnerships with some of the leaders in the field to deliver their trusted wellness products to customers across borders. Driven to do more, the company made the bold choice to begin crafting products and brands of its very own, quickly finding its niche within the vitamins, minerals, and supplements (VMS) market. Blending its laser focus with a discerning eye, Comfort Click built brands around the common theme of empowerment – empowering its customers in the UK and Europe to live happier and healthier lives through its products. Having conquered these markets and grown to a size that seemed impossible in 2005, Comfort Click has now set its sights across the Atlantic and is beginning to develop a foothold in the US. COO Huzefa Motorwala has been there for almost of all of Comfort Click’s journey, and the impact he has had on the growth, innovation, and overall operational excellence of the company is one of the reasons it has become a global success story over the past 18 years. Huzefa’s first role with the company was in customer service, where he worked in India for five years. In 2012, Huzefa relocated to the UK after being promoted to lead international customer support. Three years later, he was promoted yet again. During his time as the manager of procurement, compliance, and logistics for the company, Huzefa helped create and expand some of Comfort Click’s product lines, including WeightWorld and Animigo. He also proved invaluable in relaunching MaxMedix, which is just one product within a range of sub-brands within the personal care and cosmetics market developed by the company, a feat which undoubtedly contributed to him securing the role of Comfort Click’s general manager back in 2019. After five years leading the company’s transformation, growing its revenue, overseeing its strategic expansion, and making minor tweaks to its overall operational improvements, a new challenge presented itself in 2024 – the role of COO. Today, Huzefa is responsible for overseeing the operations and expansion strategy of Comfort Click on a global scale, and he leads the company’s diverse, international, and 300-strong team with his clear vision for the future of the brand and a leadership style honed over almost two decades of development within Comfort Click itself. The result is a COO that has grown from the ground up alongside their company, making them inextricably linked with its success and a fitting example for the team to follow. It is in this way that Huzefa balances effortlessly with Nehal Patel, Comfort Click’s CEO, who joined the company in the second half of 2023. By blending Huzefa’s deep knowledge of where the brand has come from with Nehal’s ambitions for what it could one day be, the perfect balance is struck and clear, achievable goals are set. With Comfort Click Ltd now well underway on the next steps of its journey, Huzefa Motorwala remains as determined as ever to driving its continued success, expanding the brand’s presence in new countries and improving its understanding of local markets in the process. This dedication is ultimately what we are celebrating with the two awards we have bestowed upon the COO and the company in this programme. CEO MONTHLY / GLOBAL COO EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2025 9 COO of the Year 2025 (Europe): Fintech Growth & Operations Founded in 2010, HKCM specialises in financial markets analysis according to the Elliott-Wave principle of technical chart analysis. The company serves B2C clients who subscribe to its services to receive daily analysis on various markets, such as stocks, commodities, cryptos, metals, and indices. Emre Şentürk is COO of HKCM, a seasoned and innovative leader with an exceptional background in methodological research and capital markets. Within HKCM, Emre is responsible for the coordination between the different departments, designing projects, structuring workflows and systems, and generally overseeing the progress of HKCM’s operative work. Such duties entail ensuring that the team meets deadlines and stays within planned budgets, as well as taking on employer development and leading expansion projects – such as internationalisation efforts or expanding into new service areas. When Emre first joined the company in January 2021, the HKCM team was seven members strong: three founders, an analysist, a project manager, an accountant, and Emre, a financial writer. From the very first day, Emre began to provide insights into how to improve HKCM’s service, website, marketing, and internal systems. In the following months, the team improved many of these areas and Emre invested significant time and energy into implementing the changes. Later, HKCM began to grow, and Emre was entrusted with building a Writing and Update Department. “I led this department until October 2023,” he recalled. “In the meantime, I introduced many new workflows, guided my colleagues through change processes, and ensured that the daily operations always increased in quality. The founders approached me in October 2023 and offered me the position of COO, which I happily accepted. From there, I reactivated idle projects, such as our mobile app, which we then launched in seven months after it had been idle for oneand-a-half-years. Further, we remodelled our customer dashboard and deepened the customer journey.” Today, HKCM stands with approximately 50 employees across two offices, with more than one million followers across all social media platforms. Over the last couple of years, the company has risen to take its place as the market leader in the DACH region’s segment. To maintain the smooth functioning of the company and ensure sustainable growth, Emre takes a structured approach geared towards constant adaption. “Workflows, requirements, goals, responsibilities, resources, and ideas need to be structured and communicated clearly,” he explained. “Structure is paramount. We only behave the way we do because the structure allows us to. Therefore, new projects are planned in thorough detail and the expectations are communicated clearly and repeatedly. Once I have the feeling that all participants truly grasp the intention of the project, we delegate tasks in written form and in much detail.” Not only does this ensure that each member of the team is working in complete alignment with the overall mission and objectives but also frees up the employees’ mental capacity for creative tasks and professional development. Alongside this, Emre recognises that another instrumental factor in HKCM’s success is team drive; if the employee is not motivated to do more than their best work each and every day, the team will ultimately never achieve optimal, or even satisfactory, results. Of course, as with any successful COO, Emre’s time at HKCM has not come without its challenges. But Emre, named Europe’s COO of the Year 2025 in Fintech Growth and Operations, has learned from his vast experiences. He shared with us the following advice: “Managing perceptions is very difficult. Within the frameworks of success that are important to the company, there is little room for interpretation on what the goals are. Yet, people do bring in their emotions and defend them dearly at times. It is important to understand everyone and approach each person individually from their perspectives and lead them to the company’s success.” Contact: Emre Şentürk Company: HKCM Web Address: hkcmanagement.de Apr25299 The Chief Operating Officer is an integral executive team member responsible for managing business operations, developing management strategies, and ensuring overall operational efficiency. A successful COO displays clear leadership skills, effective communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills. Today, we celebrate Emre Şentürk, COO of HKCM, in the Global COO Excellence Awards 2025. We caught up with Emre below, to find out more about his journey of success.

CEO MONTHLY / GLOBAL COO EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2025 11 Real business transformation doesn’t start with market analysis or rebranding exercises. It starts with human behaviour. Every business is a reflection of the values, perceptions, decisions and actions of the people leading it. So if you want to create meaningful change in your business, you are wise to first shift the way you perceive yourself, your priorities, the purpose you’re here to serve, and where you are wasting time and energy. These five strategies are drawn from the Breakthrough Experience and built from decades of work helping business leaders dissolve mental blocks, align with their true mission, and build enterprises that are both profitable and deeply fulfilling. 1. Clarify and align your actions with your highest values Every individual has a unique hierarchy of values, things they spontaneously prioritise organically; they are what your life demonstrates about you most. When a business leader is unclear on their highest values, they’re vulnerable to distraction, burnout, and “selfsabotage”. They chase external outcomes, adopt other people’s models, and ignore the signals their own life is giving them. But when you live congruently, and daily decisions reflect what is truly most meaningful to you, you unlock focus, creativity, and resilience. You become more purposeful in your communication, more strategic in your actions, more certain in your vision, and you gain momentum. Business becomes less of a grind and more of an expression of your identity, and that’s when 5 Practical Strategies for Meaningful Business Transformation – Inspired by the Breakthrough Experience By Dr John Demartini, Human Behaviour Specialist real performance shows up. 2. Transform challenge into opportunity by balancing your perception A challenge in business is never random; the most successful leaders view setbacks as feedback. When something goes “wrong” – whether it’s a loss of revenue, staff turnover, market shifts, or unexpected costs – it’s pointing to an imbalance, or a place where values aren’t aligned. Challenges reveal where you’ve been unrealistic in your expectations, or where you’ve subordinated your values to external pressures. The mind becomes reactive when it sees only one side, but grounded when it sees both. Ask yourself: What’s the lesson? The moment you balance your perception, by identifying the benefits of the challenge, you gain clarity; it allows you to act wisely, and extract the meaning and value from it. The businesses that adapt and thrive are the ones led by individuals who can remain centred in the face of uncertainty, and turn chaos into constructive refinement. Seen through the right lens, every problem reveals a hidden advantage. 3. Delegate according to values to expand your impact Many business owners believe they need to do everything themselves. But doing lowpriority tasks that don’t inspire you costs more than just time; it costs presence, energy, and opportunity. The key is to delegate according to values. Give tasks to individuals whose highest values match the job at hand. When someone sees meaning in what they do, they take ownership, and perform at a higher level because the work speaks to who they are. By focusing on what energises you, you create space for innovation, vision, and leadership. You grow your business not by doing more, but by ensuring everyone is doing what they are truly inspired to do. That’s what builds a culture of trust and performance. 4. Serve with purpose and build wealth as a byproduct Profit and purpose are not enemies; people don’t need to choose between doing what they love and making money. It’s a false dichotomy; sustainable wealth is not created by chasing money. If you’re genuinely serving people in a way that matters to them and you, profit is a natural outcome. If you’re doing work that aligns with your values, and you’re tailoring your product or service to solve a real challenge for your customer, you’re engaging in an exchange that benefits both parties. You’re not selling – you’re caring and serving – and the market responds to that. The most profitable businesses are often those that are the most purposeful; they lead with clarity, deliver with care, and build relationships based on value and trust. Purpose fuels performance, and performance produces profit. 5. Refine decision-making by dissolving emotional static One of the biggest sources of inefficiency in business is poor decision-making; decisions made from reactions, not reflections. Poor decisions stem from unbalanced emotions. When you’re infatuated with an outcome or resentful of a challenge, you act too quickly without due diligence or freeze in analysis paralysis. You can end up chasing opportunities that don’t fit, or fixing problems that weren’t real in the first place. The solution is to return to balance, and that requires selfawareness. Ask quality questions that dissolve emotional charges. What are the upsides of what you fear? What are the downsides of what you’re chasing? Am I acting in line with my mission, or trying to prove something to someone else? This re-centres your thinking, activates your executive centre, and allows you to make decisions with poise and precision. Business leaders who train themselves to dissolve emotional noise become better strategists. They conserve energy. They anticipate obstacles. They lead from clarity, not chaos. Balanced thinking leads to balanced decisions which build businesses that grow with stability and direction. Transformation doesn’t need to be dramatic, but it does need to be deliberate. It’s a method. When you get clear on what drives you, stop trying to be everything to everyone, and structure your business around inspired service, things begin to shift. Align your life with what truly matters, interpret feedback wisely, empower others to rise, serve with integrity, and govern your emotions so you can make sound decisions, and take spontaneous, inspired actions. That’s how you break through the noise, build something meaningful, and it’s how your business begins to reflect the most inspired version of you. That’s what real transformation looks like.
