10 CEO MONTHLY / GLOBAL CEO EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2021 CEO MONTHLY / GLOBAL CEO EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2021 11 , May21034 Industrial Technology CEO of the Year 2021: Ron Ballman Humanity depends on electric motors to keep the world running. Over 50%of the world’s energy is consumed by these vital devices. The core principles and designs behind them, however, has not changed for over seventy-five years. The teamat Adventech LLCwant to change all that. Under the leadership of CEO Ron Ballman, they have begun the process of revolutionizing a key part of the world order. We take a closer look at Ron and his world to find out more. When the team at Adventech first opened their doors, it was to act as far more than a simple motor provider. The firm has made a name for itself as an industrial technology company, capable of providing solutions that meet the needs of a rapidly changing world. The challenges of global energy constraints have created a need for innovation, one which Ron and his incredible team are determined to meet. The annual global electrical waste stands at 4.4 trillion kWh, meaning that $616 billion is wasted on an annual basis. The annual industrial drive motor consumption is 25% of total global power consumption. 25% of global waste ($616 billion or 4.4 trillion kWh) value is $154 billion or 1.1 trillion kWh. The Maxeff motor, developed by Gerald Goche and pioneered by Adventech offers performance that is around 30% more efficient than a standard IE3 motor. This technology helps reduce the global industrial drive motor waste at a conservative rate of 15%, i.e., $23 billion annually or 165 billion kWh. When Adventech was formed, it was from the acquisition of the Maxeff IP. It was only a proof of concept at the time, but the durability testing and efficiency improvement processes had created an enormous amount of interest. Quickly, over 1500 motors were in service, with demand increasing by the day. The benefits of the motor were numerous, holding the appearance of other counterparts, being in IEC and NEMA frames, but unlike these, a Maxeff motor is able to operate at over 95% efficiency, with the highest torque rating being a power factor of .99. Built into this innovative technology is a reverse winding that works as a regenerative winding, capturing reactive waste and regenerates it into leading inductive power. No other electric motor in the world has this level of performance. With the business growing, the need for new commercial eyes was vital. Developers of the new technology, Gerald Goche and Ryan Baker, reached out to Ron in 2019. Since then, he has overseen dramatic scaling of the project, with a larger 55,000 square feet facility in Florence. This has increased the amount of motor sales to over 3000 motors globally, and has seen the team gain their third-party data validation from Advanced Energy in North Carolina. Ron’s aim is to continue developing the technology while finding new ways of scaling it. Ultimately, the goal is to get as many induction motors, VFD units, soft start units and remote monitoring systems into the hands of those who genuinely want to make a positive impact on the many issues being faced on a global scale. Ron’s work in this industry is very different to others, because of the nature of the company. While many are involved in the motor industry, few are visionaries in the same way. He sees his role as one which nurtures the potential of their incredible concept, finding ways of ensuring that they can reach as many people as possible. Adventech is not a standard motor provider, but an ambitious alternative that is becoming more and more popular as more and more people discover what is available to them. Where others in the market make empty promises, Ron has ensured that his business is one which consistently and continuously delivers. The nature of the Adventech approach supports this attitude, with the team offering the ability to retrofit the majority of existing motor frames with this new and advanced technology. While a new Maxeff motor is around 15-22%% more efficient than a standard IE3 motor, a remanufactured motor by Adventech can deliver 10-12% improvements. By offering a big difference, even without buying an entirely new motor, the team are able to transform the industry in small steps that will later lead to bigger ones. Industrial Technology CEO of the Year 2021: Ron Ballman Because this technology is, by definition, disruptive, the partnerships that Ron has been able to build with other organizations have been key. Now, the firm has many household names who trust them to deliver, including Miller/ Coors, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Anheuser-Busch (InBev), Solvay Chemical, and Berkshire Hathaway. It took a great deal of effort to convince them to try these new techniques, but now they not only embrace its benefits but are willing to offer the critical data and durability testing in real application settings that allows the team to improve their products. Under Ron’s incredible leadership, with the might of the team at Adventech behind him, growth has come quickly, and is certain to lead to new business partnerships which will facilitate the extension of Adventech technology to the masses. This will allow the team to resolve the decade-long lingering issues that have plagued our global power grids. Looking ahead, the Adventech team are already looking to the next big solution that they can offer. The R&D process has begun on the firm’s new and exciting transportation and automotive motor. If all goes well, this will be launched in mid-2022. The growth of Adventech under Ron Ballman has not always been easy. Working with a new and innovative technology seldom is. What it does offer, however, is a clear way forward for the world at large that will see monumental revolution at every level. We celebrate his tremendous success with the company thus far, and look forward to what incredible levels of innovation he will push them to next. Company: Adventech LLC Name: Ron Ballman Email:
