Co-Founder of Dubit and its Chief Executive Officer, Matthew Warneford, tells us a little more about the firm’s inception. “At the time, the internet was pretty boring and mostly made by adults,” he begins. “We wanted to make a place for teenagers to hang out, so we launched the first virtual world for teenagers.” This virtual world had customisable avatars, games, blogs, chat spaces, and, in recent years it has really taken off. “I think the best way to think of the metaverse is as a “3D internet”,” Matthew explains. “It is made up of 3D environments that are explored with an avatar. Like the internet, anyone can make a website, and anyone can make a 3D environment in the metaverse.” Even if you’re not aware of the metaverse, you soon will be, and Matthew tells us that it is most likely that this online world will have around one billion monthly users in a couple of years’ time. “This poses a tremendous opportunity for brands to reach and engage with an audience that is increasingly abandoning TV,” he continues. “Indeed, under 35s are watching 50-60% less TV than a decade ago. So, at Dubit, we help these brands create incredible metaverse experiences and reach the audiences that they can’t reach with TV.” But it’s not simply about gaming, Dubit also provides a worldwide trends tracker and specialist tools to explore markets and audiences through data or observation. “Our data reveals the extent to which children’s media consumption has changed, with a focus on kids’ top screen activities and the average time they spend on different activities on different screens, each week, compared with the previous year,” explains Matthew. “New data shows that educational apps are linked to compelling increases in student achievement. The average app-based curriculum analysed increased achievement by 165% of expected student growth.” Dubit also runs the Metaverse Gaming League, the first esports league in the metaverse. Streamed every week, we partner with brands and some of the biggest Roblox games to give away thousands of dollars in prizes. Following a whole host of awards won, Dubit’s latest achievement to add to the trophy cabinet is actually attributed to Matthew himself, who recently gained recognition in the Most Influential CEO Awards and was crowned Most Influential Video Games CEO 2023.
