CEO MONTHLY / ISSUE 1 2023 21 Collaborative Success As one of the leading environmental consultancies in the North of England, E3P is highly regarded by clients, peers, and partners alike, with a reputation for being dynamic, technically excellent, and service focused. “We pride ourselves on our core values of collaboration, empowerment, openness, expertise, equality and, most of all, a personal touch,” explains Chief Executive Officer, Martin Dyer. “Consistently demonstrating these values within our work has established E3P as a trusted environmental advisor to a range of high-profile clients across all industry sectors.” E3P is fortunate to work with a broad spectrum of clients across many sectors, predominantly in the property and construction industry, including numerous PLC developers, institutional landowners, public sector organisations, and industrial operators. With a strong reputation for excellent professional advice and pragmatism, clients regularly approach the firm to retain its services across the UK. One hundred percent of the E3P shares are owned by the active company directors and the wider team. As an employee-owned company, the firm directly benefits from its success, making it more committed, innovative, invested, and transparent in all of its working practices. As an organisation, it remains true to its founding principle of always putting its people before its profits and Martin believes in a ‘flat leadership’ style with limited layers of management and an opendoor policy. A high emphasis is placed on company culture and the wellbeing of colleagues. Throughout the year, E3P organises numerous team events, from a winter walk in January when the days are short, to days spent sailing in the Lake District on a warm summer evening. “We work in an open plan office with no divides; this promotes knowledge sharing and communication, which is vital in a professional services industry,” he elaborates, speaking of the firm’s internal culture. “I would never ask someone to do something I wouldn’t be willing to do myself.” As a core principle, E3P will always invest in people, training everyone to a level where they have the skills to work anywhere in the world, while ensuring it creates an environment where people do not feel the need to leave. The valued team is provided with excellent training, investment, and rewards to help them constantly improve and grow, meaning that E3P’s commitment, dedication, and professionalism ensures that it continues to be one of the most well-known organisations in Manchester and beyond. “Over the years, I have learned that the most powerful leadership tool is recognising the strengths of others and providing them with a platform allowing them to succeed,” Martin enthuses. “I value trust and respect above all else, and I understand that my idea is not always the best one in the room. However, my role is to listen and guide the conversation to ensure the best outcome for the organisation as a whole.” As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the company quickly transitioned to homebased working. However, it was soon noticed that working from home meant that people struggled to differentiate between work and their personal life as the two spheres became merged. As the team returned to a hybrid working arrangement, E3P instigated ‘the right to disconnect pledge’ which was signed by all directors and every member of staff in turn. “The E3P right to disconnect pledge focuses on people’s time away from the workplace and discourages unnecessary contact that can otherwise change your current state of mind,” he continues. “The rights enshrined in the pledge include the right of a colleague to work flexibly at a time to suit their ‘life time’; the right to a peaceful and workfree weekend/holiday; and the duty to respect another person’s right to disconnect.” This refreshing approach not only helps to empower the staff at E3P, but is has also helped to gain Martin recognition in the CEO of the Year Awards which resulted in him being bestowed with the prestigious title of Geotechnical & Environmental Consultancy CEO of the Year 2022 – UK. “Taking a company from inception with no staff to being an established and successful organisation presents challenges on a daily basis. However, when I look for support from the wider team, we can overcome these obstacles together.” Contact: Martin Dyer Company: E3P Web Address: www.e3p.co.uk Nov22777 E3P is an environmental consultancy with a difference.
