CEO MONTHLY / GLOBAL COO EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2025 6 efore Moov came along, the experiences had in budget hotels were mixed, to say the least. Striving to rethink this space from the ground up, Moov strives to deliver hospitality that is as smart as it is efficient – blending comfort and tranquillity with modern design and underpinning it all with a relentless sustainable focus. The overarching aim for the team behind the brand is to simplify the entire stay, all without sacrificing on the elements of the hotel experience that mean the most to their guests. The brand is distinguished as a result of both its attention to detail and its consistency, with the well-defined procedures it boasts, its regular performance analyses, and its heavy investment in cross-functional training resulting in a leaner service model and a stronger, more adaptable service culture than its competitors. Complementing this is a rigorous adherence to sustainable practice, a core pillar for the brand and an ethos displayed in everything from eco-conscious initiatives to customer relations. “We want to be a reliable choice for today’s travellers – whether they’re on business or enjoying a break – by offering a welcoming, modern, and peaceful stay in one of our carefully chosen city-centre locations.” Everything that Moov is about is reflected through its team – especially COO Miguel Silva. Miguel has been working in the field of hospitality now for more than 20 years, a tenure defined by both continuous learning and close work with guests and teams alike, beginning his career at the front desk and working his way up. It wasn’t long before Miguel was leading teams across a number of five-star properties, delivering unrivalled experiences for guests whilst also leading pre-opening projects. Upon joining Moov, Miguel was immediately struck by the clarity of the brand’s vision, and he has spent the past 12 years seeing that the growth and innovation of Moov Hotels remains rooted in this vision. As for his dayto-day duties, Miguel seamlessly balances COO of the Year 2025: Sustainable Budget Hospitality & Excellence in Fostering Organisational Culture 2025 Moov Hotels, which is part of the Endutex Group, was established in 2010, on the back of the Group deciding to diversify its offerings and enter the hospitality sector. Securing its first property, Moov Porto Centro, in the heart of Porto, Portugal, the brand went international a few years later in 2015, opening Moov Curitiba in Brazil. Somewhere in between these milestones, Miguel Silva joined the company as the COO of its Portugal operation. Recognised with a duo of awards in this programme, we caught up with Miguel for more on both his role and the impact he has had. operational leadership with ambitious expansion goals. With the hospitality industry being at somewhat of a crossroads right now – this as a result of the sustained demand for travel since COVID-19 restrictions eased a few years ago being offset by industry-wide challenges such as recruitment shortages, technology integration, and rising labour costs – it is imperative that Miguel’s approach to leadership be as strong as it is flexible. By blending clear communication with proactive planning, Miguel is able to empower his teams and foster a remarkable culture. “Ultimately, my role is about creating the conditions for our teams to thrive and ensuring the guest experience is never compromised – day in, day out.” Looking ahead to the next steps of both his own career and Moov more broadly, Miguel’s primary aspiration is to continue building the brand into the successful empire it is quickly becoming. As for how this will impact his role, Miguel explained: “I see my role as constantly evolving to meet the company’s needs. My focus is always on supporting the teams, collaborating with colleagues across the organisation, and ensuring we remain adaptable to the changing demands of the industry.” Finally, Miguel excitedly tells us about the next phase of development Moov is currently in, with several projects under construction already and even more openings set for the near future. Aside from hotel properties, these will include the introduction of serviced apartments, diversifying the brand’s portfolio even further. Even though this will bring an added layer of responsibility to his role, Miguel is excited about the changes and strives to continue on his quest to redefine standards in budget hospitality.
